Spring Races In Amarillo You Can’t Miss [2017]

There is nothing more rewarding than running a race that not only helps you to stay in shape, but also helps support a great case. If you are looking to get in shape for the summer season or just want to show your support for a deserving cause, be sure to sign up for one of the many races offered in Amarillo and the surrounding areas this spring.

SPRING RACES IN AMARILLO

AMARILLO MARATHON

April 8

All proceeds from this race benefit go to the Panhandle Cancer Cure Foundation. The events include a full marathon, half marathon, and a four-person relay, all commencing at 7:30 a.m. at the Texas Oncology Center.

BUNNY HOP 5K

April 15

This 5K, put on by the Amarillo Area Young Lawyers Association, benefits LegalAid of Northwest Texas. The day before Easter, head out to Thompson Park and get your hop on at 9 a.m.

GIDDY UP FOR TEX 5K

April 22

This 5K run and 1-mile walk takes place at the Square in Downtown Canyon. The race begins at 9:30 a.m. and the walk begins at 9:35 a.m.

AUTISM AWARENESS SUPERHERO 5K

April 22

If you love to wear costumes while running, this is the race for you. Come dressed in your best superhero attire and benefit Helping Hands and increase autism awareness. This 5K is held in conjunction with the seventh annual Amarillo Area Autism in Action Walk. The race kicks off at 8 a.m. in Thompson Park.

CINCO DE MAYO RUN 5K AND 1 MILE

May 6

The League of United Latin American Citizen hosts its third annual Cinco de Mayo race to benefit LULAC college scholarships for area high school students. The race starts at 8 a.m. at Our Lady of Guadalupe Church.

LONE STAR RUNNING CLUB SPRING TRAIL RUN

May 7

This running event is a combination of exercise and beautiful scenery. The running route can range from 10 to 15 miles of scenic trail.

RACE FOR THE FALLEN

May 20

The American Fallen Warrior Memorial Foundation hosts their fundraiser on Armed Forces Day. This event includes a 10K team relay, a 5K Walk for the Fallen, and a 5K Memorial Run. The event starts at 7 a.m. at the Stephen F. Austin Park.

HOPE AND HEALING HALF MARATHON AND MEMORY WALK

May 21

This run, which begins at the Amarillo National Bank Plaza, raises money for the The Hope and Healing Place. The Hope and Healing Place is a nonprofit organization created as a safe place to help children and adults during the grieving process. The race begins at 7 a.m.

June 3

The 11th annual Myrick 5K and Walk takes place at the John Pittman Municipal Golf Course in Hereford. The race starts at 8 a.m. John Pittman Municipal Golf Course.
