If you’re the mother of a toddler, you know how much of your time is spent on things like keeping them from tumbling down stairs, or from pulling something valuable down from a shelf. It’s a workout all on its own!
Keeping up with your own fitness routine during the toddler-raising years can be every bit as challenging as chasing your little one around the house.
But staying fit is possible, even if you can’t find the time to work out on your own. Here are some helpful tips to keep you active.
6 Exercises You Can Do With Your Kids
1. Buy a Jogging Stroller
Taking your child with you on your jog will not only help you stay fit, but it will also keep your child entertained. They’ll be contained in the stroller but able to take in all the sights and sounds of the neighborhood. If jogging’s not your thing, go for a long walk instead.
2. Incorporate Exercise Into Play Time
There is a multitude of activities you can do with your child that will keep you both active, from throwing, kicking or rolling a ball to each other, to playing a game of tag. Or, you can even do specific exercises, such as:
- While lying on your back, and with knees up for support, hold your child above. Lift and lower her for as long as you can.
- Stand with your back against the wall with your feet spread about shoulder width apart. Hold your child and then bend your knees parallel to the floor as if performing a squat.
- Get into a plank position and watch how quickly your toddler will want to crawl under you. Hold this position for as long as you can before the “bridge” falls down.
3. Go on a Bike Ride
Attaching a bike trailer to your bike is a great way to stay active and keep your child engaged and entertained in the same way a jogging stroller does.
4. Dance to the Music
Music can be a great stress reliever while also helping with cognitive development in children. You’ll both enjoy dancing to music, and it will give your heart rate a boost while you share some laughs with your young one.
5. Go Swimming
Most kids love the water and you can turn a day at the pool into exercise time for yourself. And, remember, the Amarillo Town Club offers two outdoor aquatic parks that are great for the entire family, plus swim lessons!
6. Go to the Playground
A typical playground provides its own exercise equipment, from monkey bars (for pull-ups), to the see saw (for squats), to benches for push-ups.
