We started at the ATC over 30 years ago. Back then, there was no ATC SW and the Cornell facility had mainly tennis courts, an indoor pool, an indoor kids pool, and an Olympic size outdoor pool. The weight room was upstairs in a small room where you could look out the windows and see the tennis courts. Back then we were primarily runners and triathletes so we primarily used the weight room and the pools to train for our events. We also attended group classes and met some great people. During the 1980s running was very popular in Amarillo and we ran a race almost every weekend. Bob’s goal was to run a 5K under 20 minutes, a 10K under 40 minutes, a half marathon under 1 hour and 30 minutes, to qualify for and run the Boston Marathon, and to run a 50K. Bob accomplished his goals. Dee’s goal was to run distances from 5K to 25K for fellowship and for fitness and to run a marathon as a personal accomplishment. Dee accomplished her goals.
As we have gotten older, we mostly run on the treadmills and on the trails at Palo Duro Canyon. We also run in the water, use the cardio equipment, lift weights and do group exercise classes. We love doing the group exercise classes at ATC. Over the years we have increased our fitness levels in the step classes, the bike classes, the TRX classes, the body attack classes, and the body pump classes. We have really enjoyed the friendships we have developed with our classmates and instructors over the years. We so love the instructors and our classmates. They are like a home group to us and we love being a part of the ATC family.
